The Vodka Factory
The Vodka Factory (2010) by Jerzy Sladkowski was one of the most memorable documentaries at Nordisk Panorama in Århus last september. The doc tells the story of Valentina who lives with her young son and her mother Tatiana in a town called Zhigulyovsk, located 1000 kilometres south-east of Moscow. Valentina works in a vodka factory but dreams of becoming an actress in Moscow. Valentina is determined to make her dream a reality, and not to let the ironic jokes and pessimism of her coworkers in the vodka factory get to her. Life has been tough for both Valentina and Tatiana. Tatiana has had her share of broken dreams and is not supportive of Valentina going to Moscow, knowing she would then have to take care of Valentina´s young son.
The Vodka Factory has been screened at several film festivals and received these awards:

The film was at SVT couple of weeks ago, but luckily for people living in Sweden, the film will be available at SVT Play until 22nd of December. Following is a trailer from the film. The photo above is from the film.
